MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD: ADVOCACY OPPORTUNITIES WITH AARP

As Election Day draws near, you, along with millions of voters nationwide, are preparing to make choices that will shape the future for you and your family.

AARP is committed to empowering voters by advocating on key issues that impact older Americans. With a long-standing history of non-partisan voter education, AARP provides essential information about the voting process and where candidates from both parties stand on issues important to people aged 50-plus and their families.

AARP’s mission is to empower individuals to live with independence as they age, focusing on protecting Social Security and Medicare, lowering prescription drug costs, supporting family caregivers, helping people save for retirement, closing the digital divide, ensuring access to affordable housing, and building livable communities. If you are passionate about these issues and want to join AARP’s efforts to advocate for them, here are three ways you can get involved:

Become an E-Activist

AARP E-Activists are part of a powerful network of advocates who receive important policy updates and guidance on how to influence federal, state, and local laws – and policies. As an E-Activist, you can take action by sending emails, signing petitions, or calling your representatives—you choose how you want to participate. By becoming an E-Activist, you'll receive the AARP Advocate, a free monthly e-newsletter, along with email alerts covering the latest news on key issues. You’ll also get opportunities to take action in your state, in Congress, and even at the White House. Sign up to become an E-Activist.

Join AARP’s Mobile Activist Team

Become an Advocacy Volunteer in Your State

AARP advocates for social change by influencing federal, state, and local laws and policies that affect people 50-plus and society at large. Volunteer opportunities vary by state, but typically involve representing AARP in your community by meeting with elected officials to discuss AARP’s positions on legislation. Volunteers may also attend town halls, public events, and build relationships with legislative staff. Volunteers receive orientation and specialized training, working as part of a team with clear responsibilities and reporting directly to AARP staff. Find out how to volunteer in your state.

Whether you sign up to be an E-Activist, join AARP’s Mobile Activist Team, or become an AARP Advocacy Volunteer in your state, your voice is crucial in advancing the issues that matter most to older Americans.
