CELEBRATE NATIONAL VOLUNTEER MONTH

Every year, we celebrate National Volunteer Month in April. It's a perfect time to honor and recognize the invaluable contributions of volunteers—those who generously devote their time, energy, and passion to helping their neighbors, improving their communities, and making the world a better place for all of us. This month-long observance highlights the diverse ways volunteers make a difference, from supporting local nonprofits and community organizations to contributing to national and global causes.

AARP Volunteers Make a Difference

AARP was founded by Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, a devoted volunteer and advocate for older Americans. In honoring her legacy, AARP offers numerous volunteer programs. These programs provide a variety of services, from instruction and resources for tax preparation and fraud prevention to advocacy and more. AARP offers both in-person and virtual volunteer opportunities, encompassing a wide range of skills and needs. They include:

  • Fraud Prevention: Assists older Americans in identifying and avoiding scams that could financially harm them.
  • Driver Safety: Aids older drivers in staying safe on the road and remaining connected within their communities.
  • Friendly Voice: Listen, offer reassurance, and be a friendly voice for people 50+ who have requested a call or call into our virtual call center.
  • ElderWatch: Supports older consumers in protecting themselves by recognizing, refusing, and reporting fraud, scams, and identity theft.
  • AARP Foundation Experience Corps: Contributes to helping students become better readers.
  • Legal Counsel for the Elderly: Prepares and protects older Americans from becoming victims of fraud, acting as a powerful first line of defense.
  • AARP Foundation Tax Aide: Assists low-income taxpayers in preparing and filing their tax returns to ensure they receive the refunds they deserve.
  • Senior Planet: Empowers older adults to use technology and change the way people age.
  • Wish of a Lifetime: Fulfills lifelong dreams for older adults.
  • E-activist: Connects advocates to political and legislative programs, activities and initiatives in their states.
  • And more, offering numerous ways to make a significant impact.

A Powerful Force for Good

AARP takes this opportunity to thank our volunteers and every individual who dedicates their time, expertise, and passion to making a difference. Whether you devote a few minutes to lend a hand or commit a lifetime to a cause, there is one thing you all have in common – you inspire us with your generosity and grace.

As Dr. Andrus once said, "The human contribution is the essential ingredient. It is only in the giving of oneself to others that we truly live." We remain grateful for all that you do, for the lives you touch, and for the difference you make.
