VOLUNTEER TO HELP ANIMALS...OVERSEAS!

A love for animals and passion for helping them often go hand in hand. And from pet shelters to therapy animal training and wildlife documentation, opportunities to make a difference in the United States abound. But if you’ve got the itch to travel and want to put your animal passion to work helping finned, feathered and furred friends overseas, you might find just what you’re looking for below! 

Make it an exotic trip.

If you’re motivated and seeking a real challenge, visit the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus and team up with Cyprus Pride House for daily shelter operations, including feeding, kennel cleanup, animal interaction and play, and daily maintenance. The organization was founded by a couple who moved to Cyprus from the UK in 2002 and felt an urgent need to serve the animals on the island.

Be a global friend to man’s best friend.

Dog abandonment is a serious problem in the United States. But fortunately, a robust rescue initiative is helping some of these animals find forever homes. In other nations, such as Guatemala, dogs need an extra helping hand. You can team up with AnimalAware.org  and find volunteer opportunities including basic canine care, photography, fundraising, and even educational opportunities in local schools if you’re fluent in Spanish.

Keep the peace.

As a Sustainable Agriculture Educator with the Peace Corps, you’ll head to Togo, Africa to conduct one-on-one, or group, trainings of farmers on improved technologies and management practices in the areas of crop cultivation, small animal husbandry, soil and water conservation, agroforestry tree production, and post-harvest management.

Head down under and save the reef.

The Great Barrier Reef foundation is the “lead charity dedicated to protecting the Great Barrier Reef through funding solutions grounded in science, technology, engineering and on-ground action to ensure its long-term conservation.” As a citizen scientist with the organization, you can join more than 5,600 volunteers who, since 2015, have made an impact in a number of capacities.

In Defense of Animals is a California based activism and volunteer platform with initiatives ranging from animal justice to sustainability.
